Tone CaliperExporting and supported files
The image formats Tone Caliper opens and exports, and how it keeps your original files unchanged.
Tone Caliper reads the folders you already have, leaves your originals untouched, and renders new files only when you export. This page covers which files open, what export produces, and where your edits are kept.
What it opens
Tone Caliper opens JPEG, PNG, TIFF, HEIF, and camera RAW files. Point Tone Caliper at a folder and it indexes everything inside on first load; you can add more folders — an external drive or a NAS — into the same library. There is no per-folder import and nothing is copied — after each folder is scanned, browse your whole library and open any photo to edit it.
Camera RAW
RAW files develop in-app, with dedicated controls — white balance, exposure, highlights and shadows, contrast, and sharpening — on the RAW tab.

Samsung (.srw), Sigma (.x3f), and Nikon Coolpix (.nrw) RAW files are not supported.
How your edits are stored
Editing is non-destructive. Original files stay read-only — never moved, renamed, or overwritten — and your edits are saved separately. You can reopen a photo, rework the grade, or reset it to the original at any time.
What it exports
Open the Export persona with Ctrl+3, then choose a format:

| PNG | Lossless, 8- or 16-bit. 16-bit keeps gradients smooth in heavily graded photos. |
| TIFF | 16-bit, uncompressed — the archival or print master. |

Export renders a full-resolution file to a destination folder you choose. The file is written to a name_export folder, and your originals are never touched. Tone Caliper exports whichever mode is active in the editor — your color grade or your black-and-white version.
To carry a grade into a video editor instead of exporting photos, export it as a LUT.
