Add folders to your library

Tone Caliper doesn't import your photos — it reads the folders you already have, where they are. An internal drive, an external SSD, a NAS share: add each as a folder and Tone Caliper browses them all as a single library.

Add a folder

The Library opens on the Folders view — the folder list down the left. Its Add folder button lives at the bottom of that list.

1. Open the Library with Ctrl+1, and make sure the left panel is on Folders (the first row of the facet rail).

2. Scroll to the bottom of the folder list and click Add folder.

3. Choose the folder in the system dialog ("Add a folder to your library"). Tone Caliper scans it and merges its photos into your library — nothing is copied and nothing is moved.

You can't add a folder that overlaps one already in your library — one that sits inside it, wraps around it, or is the same folder — because that would list the same photos twice. Tone Caliper points out the overlap and won't add the duplicate.

One library, every folder

All your folders feed one library, not separate ones you switch between. Filters that cut across your collection — Dates, Lenses, Locations, Tags, Edited — answer over everything at once, no matter which folder a photo lives in.

Remove a folder

Removing a folder is non-destructive, the same idea as hiding a photo: nothing is deleted.

1. In the Folders view, right-click the folder's top node and choose Remove from library.

2. Confirm in the dialog. The folder's photos leave the library, but the files stay exactly where they are on disk, and your edits and tags are kept.

3. Changed your mind? Add the same folder again and everything comes straight back — edits, tags, and all.

Once your photos are in, start grading with your first color grade.
