Start from a LUT
Import a .cube LUT, adjust its strength, and use it as the starting point for your grade.
An imported LUT applies before your pins, curves, and sliders, so you can refine its look with your own adjustments.
Load a LUT
Drag a .cube file onto the color wheel, or right-click the photo and choose Import LUT….
The photo and the wheel's color points update to reflect the LUT. Your pins select and adjust these colors.
The strip above the wheel contains three controls:
- LUT name — click to choose a previously imported LUT or import a new one.
- Strength — click the percentage to open the slider. The default is 100%; lower it to reduce the LUT's effect.
- ✕ — remove the LUT.
On the B&W tab, the same strip appears at the top and accepts dropped LUT files. The LUT applies before the black-and-white conversion.
Refine the look
Use pins, curves, and sliders to adjust the result. For example, you can correct skin tones or change the greens without removing the LUT.
Hold B to view the original photo without the LUT or your other edits.
Each photo can use one LUT at a time. Importing another replaces the current LUT. Press Ctrl+Z to undo the replacement.
Save or export the look
To include the LUT in a recipe, select Imported LUT when saving the recipe. Recipes based on someone else's LUT cannot be published to the community.
You can also export the finished look as a LUT. The exported LUT includes the imported LUT and your additional color adjustments.
Troubleshooting
"Can't read this LUT"
Tone Caliper supports 3D .cube LUTs designed for Rec.709 or sRGB images. Log-to-Rec.709 conversion LUTs and 1D LUTs are not supported. The error message explains why the file could not be loaded.
"Missing .cube file"
The photo retains its LUT selection, but the file is unavailable on this computer. Drag the same .cube file onto the wheel again to restore it.
