Edit a photo from another app

This workflow opens the photo directly in the Editor without adding it to your Library.

Saving back replaces the file you opened. Use Save a copy… if you want to preserve it.

Open and edit the photo

1. In your other app, choose its external-editor command or Open with, then select Tone Caliper.

2. The photo opens in the Editor with its filename in a banner above it.

3. Make your adjustments. All editing tools are available, including color pins, masks, and film grain.

You can also use Open with from your file manager.

Save the result

Click Save and return to write the edited image back to the file you opened. On the first save, Tone Caliper asks you to confirm with Save over the original?

To write a separate file, open the button's menu and choose Save a copy….

Switch back to the other app to continue working. If it does not refresh automatically, reload the image.

You can continue editing in Tone Caliper and save again. If you close the photo with unsaved changes, Tone Caliper asks whether to save them first.
