Export your look as a LUT

A 3D LUT (lookup table) is a small file that records how one set of colors maps to another. Video editors, color tools, and even some cameras read them as a standard way to carry a look between applications.

Export a LUT

1. Right-click an edited photo in the Library — or right-click the photo while you're editing it — and choose Export LUT….

2. Pick a destination in the save dialog. Tone Caliper writes a standard .cube file (65-point), named after the photo.

The exported file carries whatever the grade looks like at that moment. From the Library, that's the photo's saved edit; from the editor, it's the current state of your work, saved or not.

Using it in your video editor

The LUT is display-referred — Rec.709/sRGB in and out, and clamps values outside that range, so it's built for SDR footage. In practice:

• DaVinci Resolve — copy the file into Resolve's LUT folder (right-click a node → LUT → Open LUT Folder), or right-click a node and browse to it. If your footage is log or camera-RAW, convert it to Rec.709 first (a Color Space Transform node), then apply the LUT after that conversion.
• Premiere Pro — in Lumetri Color, choose Creative → Look → Browse and select the file.

A useful workflow for film work: export a still frame from your timeline (already converted to Rec.709), grade it in Tone Caliper, export the LUT, and drop it back onto the footage.

Black-and-white grades export the same way — the LUT performs your full B&W conversion, EQ and film response included, on color footage.

LUTs and recipes

A recipe is the better format between Tone Caliper users — it stays editable, adapts to each photo, and can be shared in the community. A LUT is the right format for everywhere else: video editors, other imaging tools, anything that can't read a recipe. The same grade can become both.
